Oprah Winfrey's Eulogy for Rosa Parks

"...God utilizes great individuals to do incredible things." Reverend Braxton, family, companions, admirers, and this astounding ensemble: I - - I feel it a distinction to be here to come and say one last farewell. I experienced childhood in the South, and Rosa Parks was a legend to me some time before I perceived and got the power and effect that her life epitomized. I recollect my dad educating me concerning this shaded lady who had wouldn't surrender her seat. Also, in my youngster's psyche, I thought, "She should be huge." I figured she should be essentially 100 feet tall. I envisioned her being sturdy and solid and conveying a safeguard to keep down the white people.

And afterward I grew up and had the regarded distinction of meeting her. Furthermore, wasn't that an astonishment. Here was this modest, practically fragile woman who was the exemplification of effortlessness and goodness. Furthermore, I said thanks to her then, at that point. I said, "Thank you," for me and for each hued young lady, each hued kid, who didn't have legends who were commended. I said thanks to her then, at that point. Furthermore, after our first gathering I understood that God utilizes great individuals to do incredible things. What's more, I'm here today to say a last thank you, Sister Rosa, for being an extraordinary lady who utilized your life to serve, to serve every one of us.

That day that you wouldn't surrender your seat on the transport, you, Sister Rosa, steered my daily routine and the experiences of such countless others on the planet. I wouldn't be remaining here today nor standing where I stand consistently had she not decided to plunk down. That's what I know. That's what I know. That's what I know. That's what I know, and that's what I honor. Had she not decided to say we will not - - we will not be moved. So I thank you once more, Sister Rosa, for not just going up against the one white man who[se] seat you took, not just defying the transport driver, for standing up to the law, however for facing history, a set of experiences that for quite some time said that you were not even deserving of a look, surely no thought. I thank you for not moving.

Also, while you made plans to remain there, you recovered your humankind and you gave all of us back our very own piece. I thank you for that. I thank you for acting without concern. I frequently contemplated what that took, knowing the environment of the times and what might have happened to you, what it took to remain situated. You acted without worry for you and improved life for every one of us. We will not be moved. I wonder about your will. I commend your solidarity right up 'til today. What's more, I am always thankful, Sister Rosa, for your fortitude, your conviction. I owe you to succeed. I won't be moved.
